In addition to her community
activism, she has also gained recognition over almost two decades as a
Broadcast Journalist, Investigative Reporter and Anchor. Beginning in the
1980’s, she has become a familiar face on local television. She has
focused her reporting skills on the Asian community and worked tirelessly
as an advocate for New Americans in the greater New York area. She is
multilingual and speaks several languages including Italian, Hindi and
Urdu.
Her
programs can be seen regularly on International Television (Time Warner
Cable of New York Channels 77 & 503) and on Queens Public Television (QPTV),
which is also broadcast on Time Warner Cable in Queens. Renee graduated in
Broadcast Journalism from the State University of New York, Old Westbury,
Long Island and also has an Honors Diploma from the London School of
Journalism. She has complemented her academic qualifications with a wealth
of hands-on experience developed during her long tenure as a working
journalist.
With her
keen reportorial eye, commitment to truth and her unwavering integrity,
Renee’s programs are not only entertaining and invigorating but also
educational and informative. Over the years, Renee has produced and
reported groundbreaking programs on a variety of issues including domestic
violence, human rights, drug and alcohol abuse, health care, immigration
law, tort law, public safety, hate crime, education, family life, new
technologies and many more.
She has
served as an effective conduit between new immigrants and policy makers by
using her access to the media responsibly and bringing forth issues that
impact this group. Among them she has focused on Medicare/Medicaid, Social
Security, Children with Special Needs, Reckless Driving & DWI, Identity
Theft, Voter Registration, Affordable Housing, Predatory Lending and
Zoning Laws. The latter is an issue with which she has first-hand
experience as a member of the Land Use & Zoning Committee on Community
Board 6 covering Rego Park, Forest Hills, Woodhaven and Kew Gardens. In
fact, she has been appointed by the Chairman of Community Board 6 to a
special committee to assess the expansion of the Rego Park Mall, one of
the most contentious issues in the borough of Queens. She has used her
access to Policy Makers and Politicians effectively by bringing them home
to her viewers; and allowing the viewers to better understand the laws and
their rights as New Americans.
